Verbal SAT and PSAT Tutoring

Kerry Winer's SAT and PSAT tutoring brings a trained testing facilitator's method to one-on-one remote sessions. After thirty-three years in the classroom — including years as a literacy coach and English Language Arts educator in Massachusetts public schools — Kerry approaches test preparation the way she approaches all teaching: as a skill worth mastering with care, structure, and genuine mentorship.

Students preparing for the SAT and PSAT work on the verbal (reading) section that rewards close reading and clear reasoning. Kerry teaches students how to read a passage, work through questions methodically, and trust their own judgment — the same habits she builds in her literacy and writing support, applied to the timed format. Timed multiple-choice strategy is practiced deliberately, so students walk into the test calm and prepared.

Because the SAT and PSAT are reading tests as much as anything else, Kerry draws on the same close-reading instruction she has used for decades: noticing an author's choices, questioning a text, and carrying meaning from the page into a student's own thinking. Students who once dreaded reading passages learn to slow down, annotate, and find the answer they can defend.

Sessions are conducted one-on-one by video, so families can join from anywhere. There are no rigid packages or minimums — just the right level of support for each student. The hourly rate for standardized test preparation is $150 per hour, and a brief initial consultation is included at no cost to discuss goals and fit. Kerry personally reviews every inquiry and responds within one to two business days.
