About Kerry Winer Tutoring

A remote tutoring practice built on thirty-three years of classroom teaching — for families who want their student to read closely, write clearly, and think for themselves.

What this practice does

Kerry Winer Tutoring offers one-on-one instruction by video: literacy and writing coaching, foundational academic support for students in grades K–8, verbal preparation for the SAT, PSAT, ISEE, and SSAT, college essay coaching, and mentor coaching for teachers and departments. Every session is taught by Kerry herself, never by an assistant or a rotating roster of tutors, and no rigid packages or minimums are required.

The work is deliberately traditional in method and modern in delivery: close reading, explicit writing instruction, deliberate practice, and honest feedback — carried out in a live video session from wherever the student happens to be.

Who it is for

Families of elementary and middle school students who need steady, patient help building reading fluency, comprehension, and confidence with written work. High school students preparing for the verbal sections of the SAT or PSAT, or drafting the essays that carry an application. Middle schoolers preparing for independent school admissions tests. And educators — teachers, coaches, and department leaders — who want the same instructional design expertise Kerry brought to district-wide curriculum work.

Because sessions are remote, families are not limited by geography, and no time is lost to travel.

Who runs it

Kerry Gordon Winer is a literacy coach, English Language Arts educator, and instructional leader with more than thirty-three years in Massachusetts public schools and universities. She spent eleven years at Oak Hill Middle School in Newton, two decades teaching English at Fuller Middle School in Framingham, and several years as adjunct faculty at Lesley University and Cambridge College, where she taught disciplinary literacy, the teaching of writing, and mentoring. She holds an M.Ed. from Lesley College, principal/assistant principal certification from Cambridge College, and a B.A. in English and Sociology from the University of Hartford. She currently works as a writing and essay coach with Boston Tutoring Company and Prepped and Polished.
